Looking After Your Home

This section of the Thrift Handy web site is here to help you identify some of the more common potential problems before they become major headaches. Click on an item in the list below for more information.

Of course, we can't hope to be comprehensive and detail everything that might go wrong with a building, and the advice offered here can only be general. As always, if in doubt - ask an expert. We're only a 'phone call away: 020 8772 1553.

Sub-Floor Ventilation

If your house has a wooden ground floor, then it needs a continuous air flow underneath. Otherwise, the timber is at risk from wet or dry rot and wood-boring insect attack. It is easy for the air flow vents to become accidentally blocked, so keep an eye on those. Also, if you house has been extended with a concerete base, you need to make sure air ducts have been put in for the rest of the flooring.
