Looking After Your Home

This section of the Thrift Handy web site is here to help you identify some of the more common potential problems before they become major headaches. Click on an item in the list below for more information.

Of course, we can't hope to be comprehensive and detail everything that might go wrong with a building, and the advice offered here can only be general. As always, if in doubt - ask an expert. We're only a 'phone call away: 020 8772 1553.

Roofs

There's a lot that can go wrong with a roof, so keep a close eye on yours - especially after any strong winds. Look out for slipped tiles or ridge tiles (the ones that run along the top); cracked or lifted 'flashings' (the concrete or metal used at joins such as between a chimney stack and the roof tiles); bubbling or cracking flat roofs and - of course - any leaks. These might be very minor at first, but as always, time spent on checking and - if necessary - repairing problems early on will save a fortune later.
