Looking After Your Home

This section of the Thrift Handy web site is here to help you identify some of the more common potential problems before they become major headaches. Click on an item in the list below for more information.

Of course, we can't hope to be comprehensive and detail everything that might go wrong with a building, and the advice offered here can only be general. As always, if in doubt - ask an expert. We're only a 'phone call away: 020 8772 1553.

External Woodwork

All timber that's used outside has to be protected from rainwater getting into it - otherwise it will rot. Therefore, all the materials that are used to protect wood or come in contact with it have to be well maintained - paint, varnish, stain and window putty. Prevention is always better than cure - replacing timber can be very expensive. The first sign of any deterioration needs prompt investigation.
