Looking After Your Home
This section of the Thrift Handy web site is here to help you identify some of the more common potential problems before they become major headaches. Click on an item in the list below for more information.
Of course, we can't hope to be comprehensive and detail everything that might go wrong with a building, and the advice offered here can only be general. As always, if in doubt - ask an expert. We're only a 'phone call away: 020 8772 1553.
chimney stacks
Easily forgotten about, chimney pots and stacks are potentially dangerous - if they fall off in a strong wind they can kill. The pots and the stacks are all exposed to the elements and are very prone to deterioration over time. A simple visual inspection from the ground should be able to tell you whether you need to call in an expert - you're looking for brickwork falling apart, the mortar receeding between the brick courses and any signs of general unevenness.
